The American Hardwood Export Council collaborated with product design students at the Royal College of Art in London to create a stunning exhibition of hardwood chairs Out of the Woods at the Victoria and Albert Museum as part of the 2012 London Design Festival. The eight month project encompassed wood and chair making workshops, an introduction to Life Cycle Assessment and a rigorous design and making process. With artistic and factual documentation of the design, manufacturing and life cycle considerations architectural writer Ruth Slavid and 11 poets and prose writers tell the story of the chairs, their designers, and the making process.
